Behind the Badge
I've been thinking about forgiveness a lot lately, not that I hold any grudges towards anyone, or anything along those lines, I took care of that matter and others a long time ago. It's amazing how long some people hold a grudge against someone, even someone in their family. It could go on for years, and they may not even remember what the original offense or argument was all about. Life is too short to be carrying around burdens we don't have to, if we would just practice a little forgiveness. To forgive someone doesn't necessarily mean you've forgotten the offense, it just means you are not going to carry that feeling around with you one more day. What are you going to do about it anyway? Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord." We are not to judge, the Lord will be the judge of us all.
We talk about forgiveness and I've seen it extended in little things and in almost impossible situations. Why would somebody do that? Well, as a child we are taught to pray and in the prayer almost everybody learns, it tell us, "forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us." We need to understand this is the only petition in the Lord's Prayer that has a condition attached to it. What is the condition? It is also written, you must forgive men their trespasses or else your trespasses won't be forgiven. Unforgiveness will keep you out of Heaven if that matters to you. Look it up, this is not me talking it is our Lord.
Now I sincerely know there are horrible crimes done to innocent people. The guilty party should have to face the consequences for what they do, and most likely you will never forget what they've done, but you must forgive. Unforgiveness will make your life miserable. It can cause you to have sicknesses you normally wouldn't have attack your body. It can cause hate, and even cause you to seek revenge yourself. God does not forget the sinner. He forgets the sin. We should do likewise. Forgiveness means God buries our sin and does not mark the grave. It's so much better to forgive and forget than to resent and remember. Getting revenge makes you even with your enemy, while forgiving him puts you above him.
The bottom line here is you will never get ahead of someone if you spend all your time trying to get even with them. It takes a big person to overlook the little things in others. I know this is tough, it seems impossible, but it has to be done. It's serious business. I've had people talk about me behind my back, bold face lies, and it used to bother me. But now, I forgive them, I even pray for them, and I move on. As long as God knows what I'm thinking and doing and the reason behind it, I'm ok. After all, he's the only one I have to answer to. Forgiveness is like taking a heavy anvil off your chest. It's a life giver! Until next time, be safe and be blessed!
